West Palm Beach, FL (June 11, 2010) - With the hurricane season nearly upon us, the Home Health Aides of MorseLife Home Care annually go through in-services on disaster preparedness to both pass along vital information to their elderly clients, and use for their own safety. This year, according to Director of Patient Care Services Vesna Poirier, the nonprofit Medicare and private home care agency, is putting a bit of creativity to help to convey the message.
Mrs. Poirier notes that beyond the educational component of the in-services, each Home Health Aide also receives take-home items to serve as reminders of what they learned, including an insulated lunch bag containing a bottle of water, flashlight, can opener and granola bar, and a $1 dollar bill to remind them to have cash-on-hand for emergencies.
"At MorseLife Home Care, we have multiple priorities in the event of a hurricane - the first being to make sure that our clients are safe and secure - even to the point of escorting them to shelters if necessary," she said. "Just as important, we want to ensure that our employees are well-prepared, safe and have what they need to support themselves and our clients in times of emergencies."
She notes that the lunch bag items and the dollar bill "are more than just cute extras," they really bring the message home. "They help us articulate the importance of preparedness in time of emergency," she said.
MorseLife Home Care provides Medicare skilled nursing services, physical, occupational and speech therapies, medical social work services and home health aide support for clients upon discharge from the hospital, rehabilitation program, or by order from their physician.
